Please explain the large change

Hi @Rankedchoicevoter: it would seem that you copied and adapted a version of w:Mixed electoral system from Wikipedia, and then didn't provide any indication where you copied it from nor what version you copied. If you in fact copied the material from Wikipedia without providing some form of credit and linking, that would seem to be a violation of the Creative Commons/GFDL licenses used by English Wikipedia. I haven't personally formed an opinion about whether the old version of the electowiki article ("Mixed electoral system" oldid=14194) or your new version ("Mixed electoral system" oldid=18775) is better, but regardless, it's disruptive to make such a large change to an article without explaining yourself. Can you explain why you made such a large change as your first modification to electowiki, and why you believe your new version is better than the old version? -- RobLa (talk) 02:15, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I think the content here on mixed methods is lacking a lot, I worked on the wikipedia pages of the same article in the recent years, I thought I would help bring it up to at least the same level here. Of course, focus could be different, but I started with that as a basis. Is that a problem? do you have any advice as to how to do it better and what should I pay attention to?
I deleted most of it so it can be rearticulated without need to roll back, but also went back and made sure nothing of value was lost from the previous version. Unfortunately there were many inaccuracies in the previous versions, like the use of the term mixed member proportional to refer to parallel voting. -- unsigned comment by Rankedchoicevoter - unknown timestamp (UTC)
Thank you for your attention to this! All editors should remember that by default, when submitting something to electowiki (or any public wiki), you are saying (in effect) "I wrote all of the prose in my modification to this article" unless you explicitly state otherwise. The myriad of "free" and "open source" licenses can be confusing at times, but it's very important to note that almost all of these licenses reserve some rights to the original author, and that we have a prominent notice "Do not submit copyrighted work without permission". The permission you receive to copy others' work comes from the license, which for English Wikipedia is licensed under the "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License", and that license comes with obligations to you (as the person copying the text). It's normally fine, as long as you give proper attribution (per Electowiki:Copyrights). Please make sure you understand your obligations before copying material from elsewhere. When using talk pages, please also ensure that you read the "Help:Talk" page so that when you comment, we know who you are. Thanks! -- RobLa (talk) 20:33, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
