They use an election method to pick their leader that looks like approval voting if one squints really hard.[1] The w:United Nations Security Council holds informal straw polls every so often about who should lead the joint. One can see the w:List of members of the United Nations Security Council if one is curious about the voting membership. Apparently the United Kingdom plays a big role. Warren Smith still claims that the U.N.'s system is the same as approval voting,[2] even though it has more in common with explicit approval voting, and only if the UN Security Council gets an actual vote.
