As [[User:Dmehus]] pointed out over on [[Electowiki talk:The caucus]], the icons that show up for interwiki links (e.g. "[[mw:Help:Links]]" and "[[wikipedia:Help:Links]]") are really nicely done. I can't take credit for it; if anyone associated with [[electowiki]] was responsible, my guess is that it was [[User:Psephomancy]]. But it's still a mystery to me how it's done. I presume it's done through the user interface somehow, by calling up a template containing the little icons, but the documentation for the '''MediaWiki:''' namespace, I find, to be rather lacking. ::Though I didn't expect the link to Public Test Wiki to have an interwiki icon, it's worth noting the Miraheze magic hook (pseudo?) interwiki links do ''not'' have the interwiki links. Magic hooks, as Void explained to me on [[meta:Discord|Discord]], are a Miraheze creation that allows you to use <code><nowiki>[[mh:</nowiki>''subdomain''<nowiki>]]</nowiki></code> to link to other Miraheze wikis that aren't in either the global or local interwiki table. Speaking of which, if you ever have the need to add external links to Electowiki's [[Special:Interwiki|interwiki links table]], you have two options in which you can:
::#Request a member of the [[Special:GlobalUsers/interwiki-admin|interwiki administrators]] global user group attend your wiki to add the link (most commonly, this is requested at the [[meta:Community noticeboard|community noticeboard]] on Miraheze Meta); or,
::#Organize a local selection or election process to elect a ''local'' interwiki administrator (there ''can'' be more than one local interwiki administrator on a wiki), then, because this user right can only be granted by a [[meta:Stewards|steward]], notify a steward at [[meta:Stewards' noticeboard|the stewards' noticeboard]] on Meta to attend your wiki, who will grant the right after confirming that it meets the requirements of the global and any additional local policies as may be put into place on that wiki. I'm currently hoping to improve the informational page(s) on interwiki on Meta, but from what I've been able to gather from a 2019 RfC on Meta (as well as my discussions with Void), it seems to be a requirement that any locally selected interwiki administrator hold [[Electowiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]] rights on the local wiki (though my preference would be to see this changed, slightly, by way of a future Meta RfC or community discussion to say something to the effect of "... must hold either bureaucrat rights on the local wiki or provide evidence that a local bureaucrat has either approved or closed an applicable local discussion as successful their candidacy for local interwiki administrator." But that's for another day. ;)

One, from that 2019 RfC, it also mentions as part of the global policy requirement that any local interwiki administrator must have at least 500 global ''edits'' across all of Miraheze, but again, [[meta:Interwiki administrators|the Interwiki Administrators]] page on Meta doesn't note this, so I have to get that clarified from Void and/or John. Two, regarding the global interwiki administrator group, they can only edit the ''local'' interwiki table on any wiki, not the global [[Special:Interwiki|interwiki table]] which is maintained on Meta, interestingly, by ''local'' [[meta:Meta:Administrators|administrators]]. Historically, this hasn't been an issue since all Meta administrators were either stewards or system administrators (i.e., Miraheze Staff). However, this is starting to change with members of the Miraheze community being appointed as Meta administrators, so Void concurred with me that this ''may'' warrant an update, and one way to resolve this could be to move the global interwiki table to [[mh:login|Login Wiki]], which is maintained solely by system administrators (and stewards). This would then allow Meta to have their own local interwiki administrators, potentially. Any thoughts on either of the above, Rob?
