It appears as thought Markus Schulze and Steve Eppley discussed this back in 2010 over on Wikipedia at [[w:Talk:Ranked pairs#MAM]]. Steve claims that MAM was an independently-invented variant of [[Ranked Pairs]], whereas Markus accuses Steve of trying to assert ownership of a non-notable reinvention of Ranked Pairs. : From what I can tell it depends on whether you judge the "distinctiveness" of by the distinctiveness of their ''properties'' or the distinctiveness of their ''procedure''. MAM is just Ranked Pairs with extra rules for handling equal-ranks, from what I can tell—RP(wv).
