Category talk:Advocacy
Rename and merge
As of right now, we have Category:Advocacy and Activism pages. I'd like to change things so that we have one of the following options:
- a. Aardvark
- b. Abbey
- c. Category:Activism and Activism
- d. Category:Advocacy and Advocacy
Option "a" and "b" are intentionally nonsense. Option "c" and option "d" also refer to the second letter. :-D Which should we choose, option "c" or option "d"? (or something else?) -- RobLa (talk) 04:44, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- I bolded "Activism" and "Category:Advocacy" in my comment above so that it's easy to see what the current versions are, because I'm setting up redirects for the other two. -- RobLa (talk) 04:49, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Well "activism" is "trying to pass legislation" and "advocacy" is "trying to persuade someone that your favorite system is great". I'd be fine with them merging but I'm not sure which is more general. — Psephomancy (talk) 01:56, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- I suppose "advocacy" is more general, but I suspect a lot of folks who come to this website are looking for ways to change policy. If it's government, then "change policy" means "pass legislation", but if it's a private group or non-profit organization (e.g. Debian, Wikimedia, or a home-owners' association or something), is it "activism" or "advocacy"? -- RobLa (talk) 04:13, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- I chose option "d": Category:Advocacy and Advocacy -- RobLa (talk) 03:27, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
