There are some similarities to a concept described by [[W:Mary Douglas | Mary Douglas]] in her earlier book [[W:Natural Symbols | Natural Symbols]]. The Three Telos Model can be thought of as being [[W: M-theory#Dualities | dual]] to Douglas' [https://psychology.wikia.org/wiki/Cultural_theory_of_risk Grid-Group Cultural Theory] in the sense that each can be transformed in some way so that it ends up looking just like the other theory. There are some similarities in approach to [[W:Theory of Basic Human Values | Schwartz's Theory of Basic Human Values]] and [[W:Rokeach Value Survey | Rokeach's Value Survey]].
