User:BetterVotingAdvocacy, is "preference compression" really a term among academics or activists? The term "preference compression" doesn't seem to be in common use among either, and the only electoral use of the term I found was in an old Hacker News thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18391757 -- RobLa (talk) 02:10, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

: I don't think it's too common a term, though I thought I'd heard it in some place or other. The main reason to have a page for it is because the concept seems like one worth documenting, since it is relevant when discussing STAR's limited rating ballot in the context of figuring out who the Condorcet winner really was and similar things. It is particularly relevant when judging something like Approval. I'd ask that, before deleting this, you consider first seeking a better term to describe this phenomenon. Is this a term that is used

I don't think it's too common a term, though I thought I'd heard it in some place or other.
