C4ES

I'd like to use "C4ES" as the abbreviation for "The Center for Election Science" here on Electowiki. I know that no one from the org has officially blessed it yet, but I think it's silly to try to use "CES", given that the wikipedia:Consumer Electronics Show seems to dominate the use of that abbreviation on the web. We'll have no problem keeping C4ES on this wiki, but CES is a disabiguation page on Wikipedia, and rightfully so. -- RobLa (talk) 01:26, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

I can understand creating redirects, and maybe even adding a mention of your preference for this abbreviation in the bottom of this article, but isn't it a little extreme to change the title of something (i.e. your change of the Election Theory Forum title) when you're the only one backing the change? If any of us made such a bold change, would you accept it? (I don't mean that rhetorically either; I'd be very interested to see whether what your thinking is on this, so that I can keep it in mind for future edits I make). Yeah, I don't think we should be making up names for things that already have names. CES calls themselves "CES", so that's what we should call them. — Psephomancy (talk) 20:13, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Legally, they call themselves "The Center for Election Science" and many on the staff and board use the nickname/abbreviation "CES". However (as I said), the Consumer Electronics Show seems to dominate the web with their use of that abbreviation, and I have other personal reasons that I'm happy to share privately for disliking that abbreviation. Moreover, they aren't even listed on wikipedia:CES as one of the possible interpretations of "CES", and I don't feel like adding them to the list. I would rather make wikipedia:C4ES redirect to wikipedia:The Center for Election Science, since I believe that will help them out in the long run. But I suppose I shouldn't do that until they officially bless "C4ES" as an abbreviation, and I have a conflict of interest, so I shouldn't be the one setting up that redirect on Wikipedia. Regardless, we're under no obligation to use nicknames that other organizations choose for themselves, and I personally choose to use "C4ES" rather than "CES". -- RobLa (talk) 05:01, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

As many of you know, the C4ES discourse.org server is going to be disabled at the end of July. I wanted to note that I moved the C4ES Election-Theory Forum over to Project:C4ES discourse.org server.
