Talk:Political spectrum

From electowiki

Is there a good reason to have an article here instead of just deferring to Wikipedia's?

Politics is really a multi-dimensional space, and the 2D spectrum you've included is just one example of a projection onto 2D space. — Psephomancy (talk) 19:04, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

I am not sure if this page is needed since the wikipedia one is reasonable. The work we are doing on voting simulation is about simulating in a 2D political spectrum space. Eventually I would like to put some of that work here. Should at least add the flag that there is a corresponding wikipedia page. Politics is definitely a multi dimensional space but it may not be the same space for all people. This is touched on a bit in Ideal Representation --Dr. Edmonds (talk) 19:00, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Horseshoe theory

I removed the reference to horseshoe theory from the Three Telos model section, because it doesn't seem that a ternary representation would support horseshoe theory. In order for the diagram to do that, wouldn't it have to wrap around in some way, like a cylinder or sphere? If it should be there, feel free to reinstate it with an explanation of how it relates to the telos model. Kristomun (talk) 09:45, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

Kristomun No. This is an explanation of horseshoe theory and why it arrises in the the left right model. Horseshoe theory shows the failing of the standard left/right dichotomy. This model has no issue with Nazis begin just as centrist as liberals since there is the extra component of liberalism. Taking that out is bad. The horseshoe could easily be drawn on this diagram with the middle at the liberal end and the two sides ending up at National Socialism. Also, you refer to the left right political spectrum within this article. Not only does this confuse matters but your refer to Friedman (A classical liberal) as somebody on the right. Furthermore, you are removed a pretty good video explanation of this theory. Your changes have greatly reduced the quality of the article. --Dr. Edmonds (talk) 16:04, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
