General discussion on user pages[edit | edit source]
I'd like to discuss this edit (https://electowiki.org/w/index.php?title=User:RobLa/Burlington2009&curid=2373&diff=10887&oldid=10884) of the page. First off, I'd note that in both edits, the CW criterion is incorrectly defined (and this is important, since it opens you up to attacks on the basis that majority rule cycles invalidate majority rule entirely); CW criterion says that when candidate A beats another candidate B head-to-head, no matter who B is, then A should win.
Anyways, my much bigger point would be, there needs to be a more formalized procedure for editing another user's user pages. Otherwise I think a lot of problems could occur. So I'd probably propose that two things be done: 1) on any given user page, other users may make any edits they like only in a separate, clearly delineated section at the bottom, and 2) each user should have some dedicated page where, if for example, I see an error with something RobLa wrote on one of his user pages, then I can upload what I think would be a better version of his page to that dedicated page. So on the dedicated page, each "page proposal" would have its own section. This wouldn't prevent me from using the Talk page on that user page if the error was relatively minor, though.
In general, I'd also like to propose being much less eager to edit other users' messages that they wrote on talk pages. It's one thing to correct a small and obvious error, but it would be bad if we normalize altering or removing something someone else wrote entirely. - User:BetterVotingAdvocacy, I disagree with many of your policy recommendations above, and I believe this particular talk page is the wrong place to discuss it. Could you move this discussion to a more appropriate venue (e.g. Electowiki talk:The caucus or Electowiki_talk:Policy)? -- RobLa (talk) 17:58, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- I moved this discussino page from User_talk:RobLa/Burlington2009 to Electowiki_talk:User pages, since I believe this is a more appropriate location for discussion about user page policy. I'd like to discuss your proposed policies here (but it will take me a bit to contemplate this issue). -- RobLa (talk) 18:37, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
