For a lot of English-speaking countries and cultures, the Magna Carta was pretty important in the advancement of democracy. It comes up a time or two in Wikipedia's article about the "History of democracy"

The United States of America (also known as the USA or the US) is a big country, which seems to have a lot of people that think it's the birthplace of democracy. But we're pretty sure the Magna Carta predates George Washington and Thomas Jefferson by a few years.

There are many organizations trying to educate voters about alternatives to first-past-the-post, which is the the electoral system that still has the most use throughout the world.
