Proof
I just proved something rather interesting about BTR-IRV: candidates need only be eliminated until there is a Condorcet winner, at which point that candidate is the winner. So for example, with 4 candidates and a Smith set of 3 with no pairwise ties, if BTR-IRV eliminates one of the Smith set candidates first, then one of the remaining Smith set candidates will pairwise beat all other candidates, and thus can't be eliminated at any point, so you can just declare that candidate the winner without doing further individual matchups. "Better"
I think BTR should intentionally be pronounced "better". Proponents could call it "Better RCV", "Better Ranked Choice", or simply "Better Voting". - Frankie1969 (talk) 22:42, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Rename to "Bottom-two-runoff-instant-runoff-voting method"
I'd like to suggest we rename this page (currently named "Bottom-Two-Runoff IRV") to a new name: "Bottom-two-runoff-instant-runoff-voting method", to give the article a name more likely to be accepted on English Wikipedia. The most prolific editors on English Wikipedia like to have "hyphen-separated-adjective" followed by "noun", with only the first letter capitalized, so that the article can be linked to thusly ("bottom-two-runoff-instant-runoff-voting method"). We could call this article "bottom-two-runoff-instant-runoff voting" (with "voting" as the gerund-y noun), but it seems to me that many election methods on English Wikipedia end with "method", and thus may be the best. - Are you suggesting other names, User:AmericaRepair? Why? -- RobLa (talk) 19:40, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
It's a beautiful method. Just offering my 2 cents. Having Runoff twice in the name seems clumsy and probably not necessary. AmericaRepair (talk) 21:50, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
Add to Wikipedia
Should we move this to Wikipedia (regardless of the name)? Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 19:42, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- In general, yes, it would be a good idea to make sure that anything covered here on electowiki that would be considered "notable" by Wikipedia standards is also covered on English Wikipedia. Putting my "English Wikipedia admin" hat on, I don't think it makes sense to copy/paste this verbatim to a new article since this article needs a lot of work to get it up to English Wikipedia standards. My recommendation would be start a new "Draft:" article over there, and ping me (w:User:RobLa) on English Wikipedia for next steps (if you want/need my help). Either that, or drop a comment on a relevant page "Talk:" page over there (e.g. "w:Wikipedia:WikiProject Voting systems" or "w:Talk:Ranked voting", the latter of which is the "Talk:" page for "w:Ranked voting", which mentions "Bottom-two-runoff IRV or BTR-IRV"). The current "Bottom-Two-Runoff IRV" page here on electowiki needs many more reliable sources in order to pass muster on English Wikipedia (among other things), so someone should do the work. Good luck! -- RobLa (talk) 23:30, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
